Nant Peris (Old Llanberis) to Llyn Ogwen
5.25 Miles
This was to be Dom's big day. As with last year Day 2 looked to be the tougher of all the days.with five summits, two of which were over a 1000 metres. Leg 3 was a straight dash for the summit of Y Garn, with a spectacular, steep and very loose descent to the lake below (Llyn Ogwen). A few teams found the descent intimidating and with Tony's head for heights it would prove interesting.
Dom, Lyn and Tony stomped off up the valley out of Nant Peris towards the initial ridge of Esgair y Ceunant. From here it was across the vallet and straight for the summit. The fact it was the hottest morning so far didnt help (Tony looked loke a waterfall) and taking on water throughout was important. Dom had said to me the previous day that the waiting was a killer for the second leg. I understood what he meant after this day. The organisers had limited the first leg to a 3.5 hour cut off time. As the clock ticked through you could not help but imagine all kinds of disasters and as the deadline approached there were plenty of nervous faces in the car park.
I'd much rather be walking than waiting
It wasnt an issue in the end. Dom and troop came in with plenty of time to spare and with tales of the harrowing descent. Dom looked suprisingly fresh so it was on for Leg 4.
